Dance with Dena offers a wide variety of classes including: Ballet/Pointe, Cheer Dance, Tap, Jazz, Hip hop, Lyrical and Kickline to children ages 2 and up. Each class meets once a week for 50 minutes on their designated day. Exact schedule is shared during registration, which begins in Summer. Be sure to check our Facebook page for exact dates.
Though the dress code at Dance with Dena is fairly relaxed, students are expected, at minimum, to come to class ready to dance in comfortable athletic clothing with their hair neatly pulled back and the proper footwear.
Here is a brief summary of what to expect from each class, an idea of what students should wear along with the proper footwear:
Ballet/Pointe:
Ballet is a classic and technical style of dance stemming from French history. Students will learn a wide array of Ballet vocabulary and the corresponding movements, both at the barre and on the floor. Students in Ballet and Pointe classes should wear any color leotard and tights with or without a skirt or shorts. Pink leather ballet shoes are expected for all beginner level students. If interested, students will be notified when they are eligible to move onto pointe shoes.
Kickline:
Kickline is a style of dance inspired by the Radio City Rockettes. Students will learn jazz inspired routines and skills along with the iconic Rockette kickline skill. Students in Kickline classes should wear lycra shorts, leotard and tights along with tan leather jazz shoes without laces.
Jazz:
Jazz is a fun style of dance inspired by classic ballet technique. Students will learn combinations in a wide variety of Jazz styles including Modern, funk and musical theatre inspired. Students in Jazz classes should wear lycra shorts, leotard and tights along with tan leather jazz shoes without laces.
Tap:
Tap is a traditional, but upbeat, style of dance incorporating rhythmic movements and sounds made with a combination of tap shoes and the beat of the music. Students will learn a wide array of tap moves and drills, along with a number of fun combinations. Students in Tap classes should wear lycra shorts, leotard and tights. Beginner students are to wear patent leather black tap shoes. While intermediate and Advanced students are to wear black leather tap shoes.
Hiphop:
Hiphop is an high-energy urban dance style done to today’s popular music. Students will learn a wide variety of current hip hop styles. This is a great class for students who like high-energy and fast moving dances. Students are expected to wear black leather jazz shoes with or without laces or black dance sneakers.
Lyrical:
Lyrical is a style of dance that fuses classic ballet and jazz movements in order to tell a story through emotion. Students in Lyrical classes should wear lycra shorts, leotards, and tights along with flesh-colored leather dance half sole.
Cheer Dance:
Cheer Dance is a style of dance that incorporates pom and jazz routines, arm motions, basic stunting, and basic gymnastics. Students in cheer dance should wear tan leather jazz shoes.
Dream Team:
This team is hand selected by Dena. They have performed in Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, New York City, Myrtle Beach, Nashville,Boston Celtics, Boston College, Endicott College, Providence Bruins and many more local events!
